Flan is a Spanish dessert similar to crème caramel. It is very easy to make, but takes some time to make, as they must bake for one hour and have plenty of time to cool down afterwards.
For the caramel you need:
Ingredients for caramel
The ingredients are whipped together by hand with a whisk. You can also use an electric whisk but it is important to avoid foam.
Melt the sugar for the caramel in a pan.
Once the sugar has melted pour it into four small ovenproof ramekins. Let the sugar cool and then pour the flan mixture into the ramekins. Now place the four bowls in a large ovenproof dish with 3 cm of water in the bottom. Cover the whole thing with aluminum foil and bake your flans at 200 degrees Celsius for approx. one hour.
When your flans are finished remove them from the ovenproof dish and set them aside to cool. Now cover the flans with aluminum foil and put in the fridge for several hours until thoroughly cold.
